A night for red heroes (updated)
It's not often I win a bet, but my John Higgins punt — for him to win the World Championship — would have come off if I'd have put money on it. Still, knowing I was right is good enough for me.
The other bet I planned on putting on was for AC Milan to win tonight's Champions League final. I couldn't quite bring myself to do it, though, in my heart of hearts, I suspect I might well win some money.
This heresy notwithstanding, I predict that Liverpool will win on penalties tonight, following a 1–1 draw over 120 minutes. It won't be a pretty match, but the nervous feeling in my stomach — at 16:00, mind — plus my plan to leave work early to ensure I get in front of a television in good time tells you that it's not the quality of football I'm bothered about, but that the outcome once again is that the night is one for red heroes.
Update: Liverpool lose the final, and I win my second bet. On balance, over both of the Champions League finals between Liverpool and AC Milan, one win each is just about fair enough. Liverpool had the better of the match last night, but couldn't convert their chances.
