A night with the Masters
Earlier this week, and for the very first time, I went to watch the Masters snooker tournament at Wembley Arena. I have to say, it was one of the most exciting things I've ever done.
I've been following snooker on and off for ages — most people have some passing acquaintance with it because of its coverage on the BBC — and will always sit down to watch it if it's on. Whilst watching this year's Masters tournament, I noticed there were plenty of seats available. A few minutes later, having discovered tickets were a reasonable £25 (I paid £35 to watch Arsenal v Newcastle this time last year) and knowing that Ronnie O'Sullivan was playing on Friday, it took no time at all to book the tickets.
The evening itself was great: despite being the biggest snooker venue in the UK, we had a great view and got a much better sense of the game than at home. In the end, O'Sullivan ran out an easy winner, so there was no tense final-frame decider. But, all in all, I think this may be my first visit of many to the Masters at Wembley.
